J&J Technical Services, LLC (“JJ Tech”) is a U.S. based, world-wide supplier of artificial lift systems to the oil and gas industry. It holds patents in the U.S. and in various foreign countries on both its hydraulic Jet Pump, and on its breakthrough artificial lift system, which combines its Jet Pump with a revolutionary diaphragm surface pump designed specifically for JJ Tech by Wanner Engineering.
JJ Tech was formed in 2002 to acquire, manufacture, and market the patented New Coleman hydraulic jet pump. This pump was developed to produce large volumes of subsurface formation fluids with inclusions of moderate to high solid content. Its unique patented design allows easy retrieval of the pump from the hole for replacement of the nozzle or mixing tube. This retrieval is accomplished by adjusting the surface valves and reversing the circulation of fluid with the existing surface pump; no wire line, pulling unit or work over rig is required. The renamed JJ Tech Jet Pump offers the oil and gas industry an artificial lift solution superior to other alternatives when dealing with a range of problematic down hole issues, including:
- Faster Recovery of Frac Fluids
- Producing Wells Making Significant Quantities Of Sand
- Producing Deviated and/or Directionally Drilled Wells
- Salt Water Disposal
- Gas Well Dewatering
- Producing Wells Located in Environmentally Sensitive Locations
- Determining the Quantity of Fluid a Well Bore is Capable of Producing
- Well Cleanouts
Initially JJ Tech pursued a strategy of manufacturing jet pumps as production system components, and then marketing them through a group of distributors and end users. In 2005, JJ Tech developed its patented ULTRA-FLO System, composed of a JJ Tech Jet Pump down hole, and a Wanner Engineering diaphragm surface pump.
A landmark in JJ Tech’s history was working closely with Wanner Engineering in creating the Hydra-Cell T-80 series of seal-less diaphragm surface pumps to replace triplex pumps as the surface pump driver of the system. The design of these ground breaking diaphragm pumps eliminates packing and plunger wear. The benefits are lower maintenance costs, greater reliability, resulting in less production downtime, and the elimination of the inevitable leaks, spills, and emissions caused by triplex pumps. So effective is this pump, that it won the “Spotlight on New Technology” award at the 2010 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas.
With the development of the ULTRA-FLO System, JJ Tech transitioned from supplying only jet pumps as components for other operating systems, to delivering a total artificial lift system, customized to solve specific end user issues or maximize existing production. The capacity to offer complete solution systems in addition to the ongoing sale of individual jet pumps in a variety of configurations has broadened JJ Tech’s market share.
In addition to supplying the industry with system solutions and optimization of existing production, JJ Tech has a rapidly growing frac flowback business. Its FRAC-EVAC system, a modification of ULTRA-FLO targeted specifically for accelerated frac flowback, is increasingly employed by oil field operators as a more efficient frac flowback system. The FRAC-EVAC System consistently allows operators to recover frac fluid much faster than current options; with less environmental impact. Frac Flowback is the latest expansion of JJ Tech’s business strategy and its rapid growth in this area is testament to the advantages that the FRAC-EVAC System delivers to industry operators.
As oil and gas reservoirs in the U.S. and around the world mature and decline, JJ Tech’s solutions become progressively more valuable and applicable. In many cases, jet pumps are the only viable artificial lift alternative. JJ Tech looks forward to continued growth of its market share in the artificial lift and frac flowback markets by expanding the use of its current products, and through development of new and improved artificial lift solutions.
